That kind of defeats the purpose of someone advertiseing on your page,but you don't have one here....

Your forum is going to get absolutely nowhere if you don't let people advertise on it, and the fact that you're not taking what the above guest was saying and actually make one is completely stupid (and yes, that's stupidity, not ignorance).
By not letting others advertise on your forum, you're asking for all of the advertisements you've spent time putting up to be deleted, and that's exactly what's going to happen: admins see that they can't link back and then in the next instant, your ad on their forum is gone and the people of that forum will have no idea that this place exists.
I've seen forum admins think they can get away with not allowing advertising, and trust me when I say that their forums all died very quickly because of it.
The whole point of advertising is to get members, yes? Well, how is it fair that you can post your advertisement on others' forums and get guests/members from their forums and then not allow them to advertise on yours? Do you think you're special and it's perfectly fine for you to give but not take? That's why we have link back boards: when it comes to forums, advertising is give-and-take. You post one on their forum, they post one on yours and all is happy. You post one on their forum and don't let them post on yours, they delete your ad and eventually, no one knows your forum exists and you're wondering why you're not getting members.
I hope you begin to see past your poor decision in this regard. I'm sick of seeing (probably new) admins not taking advice from other, most likely more experienced, admins. Then again, knowing how humans are, you'll probably reply to this with as much stubbornness and rudeness as you replied to the other guest.

We are quite sorry for your inconvenience. As you did deduce, we are in fact new and what happened with our advertisement was an error. At the time we didn't realize that advertisements had been posted, it was brought up internally but never okay-d by us moderaters (or staff of whatever you prefer to call them).
We have dealt with the issue internally and all we can do is offer apologies. We are still debating a link back page (however we wouldn't be all that useful to you since most of us have gone back to school and we are in a lull) and if we do decide to create one, we would be more than happy for you to advertise.
Again, apologies. And for any other guests who attempted to post link backs, I apologize if you felt insulted or that we mishandled the situation. We were all quite flustered when the situation arose and it led us all to be a little panicky and the situation was indeed mishandled.
Any more questions or comments about this type of situation can be directed towards me.
